Jean Ritchie Special

We wanted to create a special dulcimer to celebrate our long-time and valued relationship with Jean Ritchie. We have been honored to be the authorized builders of the Jean Ritchie dulcimer since the early part of the l980's.

The back, sides and peghead and tailpiece are the last pieces of wood left from the same board used to construct the first dulcimer we made for Jean Ritchie. The walnut is exceptional in color and figure and came from a local tree that was naturally felled by a winter storm. We resawed this wood over 30 years ago and have yet to come across walnut of such extraordinary color and grain. The top on this instrument is 25 year old Western red cedar with very even grain and lovely, yet subtle color variation.

The Hearts-a-Flower inlay which was designed by Jean Ritchie has been extended to cover more of the fretboard and features colorful abalone leaves and white mother of pearl hearts on a brass stem.

In addition to the features standard to the JRW, this dulcimer comes with:

  • Gold Schaller tuning machines
  • Bone nut and saddle
  • Custom fitted hardshell case

This instrument is available for immediate shipment. Please call or email if you have questions.

Price: SOLD

To thank Jean for giving us the opportunity to build her signature model dulcimers for so many years we will be splitting the sale price of this instrument with her.

If you wish to order a Jean Ritchie Special similar in details and options to this one, please contact us for a current price quote.  A rough estimate would be around $1450.00 - $1600.00, case and shipping not included.
