Our koa dulcimers have a rich, warm tonal response, somewhere between that of walnut and rosewood. It remains very clear and balanced throughout the entire tonal scale and works beautifully for fingerpicking, flatpicking and strumming. The figure in the wood (also called flaming or fiddleback) is quite striking and adds the illusion that the wood itself is rippled.
